11 Aug Western Regional Banks CEO Pay Relies on Cash
Vivient Consulting’s analysis of CEO pay at regional banks in the West shows that CEO pay is predominantly cash-based. Vivient Consulting reviewed the 2014 proxy data of 40 Western regional banks ranging in assets from $500 million to $10 billion. Our findings show median salary of $400,000 and annual incentives of $225,000, which together represent over 75% of total pay mix. Median total direct compensation (salary, bonus, and long-term incentives) is close to $700,000, with an additional $100,000 in other compensation (such as benefits). Most banks (approximately two-thirds) grant equity to the CEOs. Time-based restricted stock is the preferred equity vehicle; however, the adoption of more performance-based short-term and long-term incentive plans is growing.
