Market Assessment
Using a number of surveys and sources, 3C collects and aggregates market data on compensation rates and practices to arrive at the going market rates for jobs, typical compensation opportunity and compensation program design features.
Custom Survey
When compensation data is needed for a specific industry or group of organizations not available from published surveys, 3C designs a custom survey questionnaire to meet a client’s data needs, conducts the survey and develops a detailed report of survey findings including side-by-side analyses of client compensation to survey compensation findings.
Base Pay Plan Design
Once an organization determines how it would like to target its compensation in comparison to market and what it would like to recognize through its base pay program, 3C designs a base pay program that aligns target pay and pay opportunity with the external market and key performance measures outlined in the organization’s business strategy.
Variable Pay Plan Design
3C assists in the design and implementation of variable pay plans that incorporate relevant performance measures and balance competitiveness with affordability.
Sales Compensation
3C works with a client to understand its sales process, the role of each sales job and the desired mix of fixed and variable compensation. It then designs an effective sales compensation program that is aligned with the organization’s pay position against market and focused on profitable sales and a fair return to the organization and the sales staff.
Compensation Committee Advisor
3C works directly with board compensation committees to establish appropriate compensation levels for executives, as well as an effective total compensation review process to maintain reasonable compensation that is aligned with performance.

Brian has extensive experience in developing effective compensation reward programs for executives, middle management and broad employee groups. Design specifics include a strong emphasis on market-oriented pay programs, creative and integrated delivery of total reward programs, ease-of-understanding and highly implementable solutions. Brian is a founding partner of 3C.

Brian has provided compensation consulting services to a wide range of companies from start-ups to the Fortune 500 with special emphasis in manufacturing, high-technology, retail, financial services, professional services. He also has a long history of advising some of the larger private/family owned companies in the U.S.
Professional Background
Brian started Buck Consultants’ compensation practice in Chicago in 1993 and prior to that time was a compensation consultant with Coopers & Lybrand for 7 years. He also has prior experience in banking and financial services.

Brian has served as a Board member of the Chicago Compensation Association and is currently on the advisory board of DePaul University’s Master’s of Human Resources Program. He is also an adjunct faculty member in DePaul University’s Management Department.

Dawn has more than 25 years of compensation program design and management experience in both consulting and corporate environments. Having a broad industry base of experience enables her to incorporate best practices into program design, development, implementation and administration activities for each client engagement.
On a daily basis Dawn provides leadership and assistance to clients and colleagues regarding compensation strategy and program designs applicable to executives, employees, sales staff and outside directors.
Dawn is a founding partner of 3C and manages the Firm’s Pittsburgh Office.

Dawn was a principal and national compensation practice leader with Buck Consultants in Pittsburgh and was also a compensation consultant with Mercer. In addition, Dawn was the Vice President of Compensation for Integra Financial Corporation, a $14 billion financial services holding company, and she held various positions in benefits administration with Mellon Bank.
